Retracing the Lightkeeper’s steps up the 140 year old wooden staircase, I am greeted with a subtle breeze on the balcony that opens out to the mighty Manukau Harbour, sub-tropical Waitakere Ranges, Auckland city and Mount Taranaki (2518 m) to the south.

Plants in the surrounding area are managed and carefully selected so that they survive the winds and the dry spells on the south side of Manukau Heads, creating a unique and beautiful array of inigenous nature.
